Many companies put their recruitment on hold as the summer vacation approaches. For many, this feels like the natural choice. But according to Roar Olav Slatlem, Head of Sales (Jobs) at Schibsted, it can be a costly strategy.

When recruitment processes are put on hold, it doesn't just increase the time it takes to find the right person for the job.

Companies also risk finding themselves in the middle of the bottleneck that arises when large segments of the market begin their hiring processes at the same time after the holidays. The result is even fiercer competition for specialists, managers, and other attractive candidates.

Summer offers a unique range of opportunities

While many employers are on vacation, something interesting is happening on the job-seeker side.

As many as 47% of the workforce consists of passive candidates. They are not actively looking for a job, but may be open to new opportunities if they are presented with them at the right time.

According to Slatlem, summer is a particularly good time to reach these candidates. When things slow down, many people have more time to reflect on their work life, their career, and their future.

“The best candidates rarely keep an eye on the job market. If you want to reach them, you need to be visible where they read news they actually trust.”

Most passive candidates rarely visit job portals. However, they keep up with the news every single day. For employers, this means that the job posting must be visible where candidates actually spend their time—not just where they are actively looking for jobs.

For companies looking to generate interest before the fall recruitment race begins, summer therefore presents an important opportunity.

From Insight to Action

It is precisely insights like these that are driving Schibsted's new focus on job postings and recruitment advertising.

Through Schibsted Stilling, we combine visibility in our editorial environments with data-driven targeting based on behavior, interests, and geographic relevance. The goal is to make job postings visible to candidates who aren’t actively monitoring the job market.

We are now launching new distribution products such as Attract and Attract+, and have relaunched the Job Carousel with a new design and improved visibility on the front pages of some of Norway’s largest news outlets.

Schibsted Stilling consists of three solutions:
